Night creams have always been my favourite skincare product. I find they do the most in terms of repairing my skin and they can feel so luxurious on the skin after a long day. My skin is all over the map in terms of its type. In the winter it is dry and sensitive, in the spring it’s more on the combination side, in the summer it can be oily and acne-prone, and in the fall it can range from combination to dull and dry depending on the weather. This can be super frustrating, but I feel like I have a pretty good handle on what works best for each skin type. So, here is my list of the best night creams for your skin type:
The Best Night Cream for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you’ll want to opt for gel-based moisturizers. Not only will they feel really refreshing on your skin but they will hydrate your skin without feeling too heavy. It can be tempting to skip moisturizer if you’re oily but doing so will only make you more oily as your skin produces more oil to keep your skin hydrated. My favourite right now is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer. It smells delicious and almost has a watery texture. It does a great job hydrating my skin without leaving a heavy, greasy finish on my skin. Others that I love are the Biotherm Skin Oxygen Night Cream and the Clinique Moisture Surge. They too have refreshing gel textures that help to leave my skin feeling fresh and more mattified than other moisturizers.
The Best Night Cream for Combination Skin
Combination skin is the trickiest skin type, in my opinion. It can be hard to know which products to use when you have both dry and oily areas on your face. Choosing a hydrating formula that is still lightweight in texture is typically what works best for me. My favourite night cream for combination skin is the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. This night cream does an amazing job of hydrating the skin without enhancing oily areas. It’s thick enough to do a good job of hydrating the skin without feeling greasy or uncomfortable! Others that I love are the Clarins Multi-Active Night Cream and the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. They both have lightweight consistencies that hydrate the skin without being too rich!
The Best Night Cream for Dry Skin
If you have dry skin, you’ll want to choose super hydrating formulas to keep your skin moisturized, comfortable, and free of flakes. My all-time favourite is the Biotherm Aquasource Night Spa. This moisturizer is really rich and has a cooling effect on the skin. It feels so luxurious on and smells lovely too! I have used this moisturizer for years and swear by it when my skin is really dry and flaky as it has never let me down! Others I love are the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet and the Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream. Both have really soothing textures and work wonders when it comes to hydrating the skin!
The Best Night Cream for Dull Skin
If you have dull skin, you’ll want to choose formulas that work to brighten and refresh the skin. My current favourite is the Shiseido White Lucent Overnight Cream. It feels really luxurious on the skin and I can notice an immediate improvement in my skin. The formula repairs skin overnight so you can wake up with healthy looking, glowy skin! Others that I love are the Origins High-Potency Night-a-Mins, which contains AHAs to renew skin and reveal a healthy looking glow as well as the Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin C+ Collagen Deep Cream as it instantly gives me a brighter, firmer complexion.
