I’ve been a morning person my entire life. To me, there is nothing worse than sleeping in and feeling like you’ve wasted half the day! I know that most people don’t love mornings quite the way I do, so I thought I would share 5 morning habits to try if you’re looking to enjoy your mornings a little bit more. These habits don’t take long to do and can really help you be your best, most motivated self all throughout the day. Granted, I don’t necessarily do all 5 every single morning, I try to aim for at least 3 to start my day off on the right note! Here are my suggestions:
Stretching is something I have recently added to my morning routine and I can’t believe it took me so long! It feels incredible and really helps my body to wake up. I’m a stomach sleeper (which is not ideal) and I can sometimes be quite sore when I wake up in the morning. Taking 5-10 minutes to stretch really helps with that and it feels good to move my body a little bit first thing. You can find all sorts of stretching routines on YouTube if you need some inspiration, or you can just go with what feels right for your body each morning!
Get Some Light and/or Fresh Air
Opening your curtains first thing will help you wake up. Allowing light in will feel energizing and signal the start of a new day. Of course, rainy days won’t allow for this, but on the sunny ones it really helps! If the weather is nice you could also open up your windows to allow fresh air to come in or even take a walk around the block if you have enough time. Getting fresh air will really improve your mood and help you to be more productive throughout the day.
Drink Some Water
Our bodies can get dehydrated as we sleep, so it’s important to rehydrate first thing in the morning. Try drinking a glass of water before moving on to your morning cup of coffee or tea. Initially it’s not the most delicious way to start the day, but soon your body gets used to it and actually craves it! For me, it helps with digestion and gives me a little energy boost too.
Eat a Nutritious Breakfast
Fuel your body with something healthy in the morning. This could be some oatmeal, a smoothie, eggs. The possibilities are endless! Eating healthy first thing will set the tone for the day ahead and make you far more likely to continue making healthy choices throughout the day. You’ll feel energized and ready to take on the day!
Make a To-Do List
Take a few minutes before you start your day to make a to-do list. Write down everything you want to accomplish so your ideas aren’t swimming around in your head all day. Also, having a list will help you stay on task and actually accomplish more!
